Overall situation of China's mold industry

Since 1997, molds and their processing technology and equipment have been included in the "Catalogue of Industries, Products, and Technologies Encouraged for Development" and "Catalogue of Industries Encouraged for Foreign Investment", and preferential policies for value-added tax refunds have been implemented for some key professional mold factories; In 1999, mold technology and products were included in the "Guidelines for Key Fields of High tech Industrialization that Give Priority to Current Development (Catalogue)" issued by the National Development Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The above measures have effectively promoted the rapid development of China's mold industry.
1) Rapid growth in the total amount of mold industry
In 2005, the total output value of China's mold industry ranked third in the world, reaching 61 billion yuan. In 2006, the total output value of the mold industry reached 72 billion yuan. The total output value of China's mold industry (with an average annual growth rate of over 16%), the number of enterprises, the number of employees, and the overall labor productivity are all showing an increasing trend year by year.
2) The import and export ratio is gradually becoming reasonable, but it is still the world's largest annual net import of molds. The growth rate of import value of mold products in China is decreasing year by year, while the export value is increasing year by year. The ratio of import and export has decreased from 6.6:1 in 1999 to 2:1 in 2006. Export molds are still mainly in the middle and low-end range, while imported molds are mainly in the middle range. The main gap is concentrated in molds with high technological content such as precision, large size, complexity, and long service life.
3) The technological level is constantly improving, but there is still a significant gap compared to foreign countries. During the 11th Five Year Plan period, China's mold technology has developed rapidly. At present, China has been able to produce precision multi-station progressive molds with an accuracy of 2 micrometers, with a lifespan of 100-200 million times. In terms of large plastic molds, we are now able to produce plastic shell molds for 48 inch televisions, plastic molds for large capacity washing machines, as well as molds for car bumpers, overall instrument panels, and other products. In terms of precision plastic molds, China has been able to produce camera plastic molds, multi cavity small module gear molds, and plastic sealing molds. In terms of large precision and complex die-casting molds, China has been able to produce die-casting molds for escalator integrated pedals and automotive rear axle gearboxes. However, there is still a significant gap compared to foreign countries. China's manufacturing industry still relies heavily on imports for precision and complex stamping molds, plastic molds, car cover parts molds, electronic connectors and other electronic product molds that are urgently needed.
